Special topics creative English was not a class I chose by choice; of a very limited amount of options (one) it proved itself to be the most viable. I honestly had no initial thoughts when entering this course because I literally did not know what to expect nor did I know what I was getting into. Despite being somewhat blind sighted by the fact that we had to do volunteer work and that our projects & writing assignments revolved this concept I grew to appreciate the opportunity given. For me this work was initially a drag; however, while we did have to do several reading and writing assignments I found it to be bearable than a Standard English course and even entertaining at some points. I also feel like it was an overall good experience because of the outside learning and active work that mitigated the  monotonous tasks given in a regular English course such as remembering vocabulary, writing huge fat essays (even though we had some pretty beefy ones) and reading novels.

My writing has adapted the principles of rhetoric; exigence and audience for example will forever be embedded in my head when writing any piece. I can now more clearly recognize and utilize diction, style, and organization to convey a message more effectively towards the target audience.  I’d say my writing has become more refined and in-depth. I’m able to isolate the purpose for writing and execute using rhetoric methods to not only achieve my reason for writing but to do so in a proficient fashion.
I benefited from my community service both subjectively and objectively. Subjectively I feel as if I was spared from grief and boredom. The community service proportion of the class provided much needed relief from the tedious demands English usually requires. Objectively I hold the conviction that because of the new approach to writing and the eased structural nature of the assignments my writing ability has improved. Apart from writing I’ve gotten a great synopsis on the history of Florida, which may serve in well in a history I’m sure I’ll be taking later on. Aside from that I’ve learn of the importance that community institutions have on our society and the benefits they provide to us all.

As a community member I have a heightened awareness of all the information a community has to offer to those who seek it. Volunteering at the Museum of Florida History has allowed an insight as to the diverse nature in which information presents itself and how by simply visiting or volunteering you receive a vast amount of understanding or how an organization works and of how our community functions.
The most important thing I’ve learned in this class is the crucial nature of reflection. Being able to look back at all the things that I’ve done and to think about it retrospectively makes me not only a better writing but a better student because by doing so I’m able to enhance my ability to learn, to work effectively and develop the skills I possess by identifying my weak and strong suits.

As a future professional I can take away from this class research, reflection, and real world values. Each an essential part in creating in you into an individual with great prowess and potential if fully realized and actualized.  Good research skill allows you to incorporate outside knowledge. Good reflection is crucial to understanding your limitations and strength to act upon them accordingly. The real world values such as responsibility and reliance as a volunteer goes a long way in the work field.
