When this class first started, I was not sure what to expect. On the first day of class I learned that as students we had to do at least 5 hours of community service and the whole class would be wrapped around this concept of community service. I never really did too much community service before college, so I knew this would be an experience that would be very useful to me throughout this experience. Now that the semester is over, I can honestly say that this course taught me mostly about my surroundings and how many people actually do community service and how helpful it is to organizations and people in general.

This course drastically improved my writing! At the beginning of the course, I did not really like writing that much, but now I realize all the different types of writing and how it could actually be fun when you write about something interesting. From all the work shopping this course has, I believe that my writing has become more mature.

The project that I learned the most from was definitely project 3. I retaught myself how to use Photoshop, and I taught myself about different slogans and logos, which took me hours of research to do in order to learn about unique and effective marketing strategies in order to get people to the museum. Being a business major, I find it very useful that I now understand some marketing strategies. Ever since I turned in project 3 I have been looking at logos and slogans differently. Now when I pass McDonalds on Tennessee Street I understand why they chose the colors red and yellow for their logo and why they chose their simple yet very effective slogan.

I benefited from doing community service, by it taught me about my surroundings and how helpful people who do community service are. Even though, my experience was not as great as other students from this class was, I still understand how helpful it is to do community service and how great it feels when you complete it. Before this class, I never really thought about community service. It was always something that I knew happened, but it never really caught my attention. After the course, I now understand without people like the kids in this class and other people who enjoy volunteering then organizations like the boys and girls club, or the shelter would not exist or they at least would not be as successful. We as volunteers are the foundation of these organizations and the people whom benefit from them need volunteers to make their life experiences better.

If I designed this class, I would definitely make more group projects involved with this course. I believe this because, as of now I am working on project 4 (with a group) and I am learning the most and having the most fun I have had during this semester. It would be a great bonding/ experience overall if we had to volunteer with everyone that is volunteering for each organization.

From doing community service with the museum, I learned how important and how helpful to the community they actually are. Museums give people living in communities an enjoyable and interesting way to learn about almost anything on that subject of the museum. In general, when people (especially college students) think of museums they think ‘ oh, it’s just a museum, I could look that stuff up online’ or ‘ museums are boring’, but in reality museums are actually amazing and for the future, the idea of museums being amazing should be spread like this. It will help the community and in general help raise education awareness for the world.
